If you’re interested in working abroad, Going Global is a must. CAPS offers you unlimited access to Going Global’s extensive database of employer profiles and over 100,000 worldwide job and internship listings. In addition, Going Global provides country- and U.S. city-specific information for jobseekers. These country and city career guides include information on local industry and employment trends, professional associations, staffing agencies, recruiters, work permit regulations, and salary information, plus advice on the local culture, CVs, cover letters and interviewing. Of special interest to those of you considering working in the U.S. is their list of H-1B visa companies. There is also a forum available to users- make connections, find housing, get job searching advice and more from other Going Global users.
To access, login to MyFuture https://csm-caps.mcgill.ca/students and click on ‘View Career Resources’. Under the ‘Type’ drop-down menu, choose ‘CAPS - Subscription’ and then click on ‘Apply Search’. This intensive workshop will help you to prepare your non-academic CV, cover letter, and business card. Following the workshop, there will be a clinic where students can sign up to obtain personalized guidance on the tool of their choice.

Wondering if your experience of graduate school is typical? New to graduate school and want to find out what to expect? Find out more about recent research and theories of graduate student development, and some tips on how to stay sane in grad school.

Natural Resources Canada (NRCan) is looking to hire a select group of talented, creative, motivated Canadians who share a keen interest in public policy or economics. Our goal is to recruit recent Masters and Ph.D. graduates with excellent academic records from across Canada to strengthen departmental capacity in policy and economic analysis. All positions are located in the National Capital Region. Students in Political Science, Natural Resource Science and Economics are encouraged to attend.

Human Resources and Social Development Canada (HRSDC) is conducting a post-secondary recruitment campaign for Policy and Research Analysts. Graduate students who have taken courses in economics, sociology and statistics are encouraged to apply. HRSDC officials will be visiting McGill on September 24 to conduct an information session. As part of SEDE’s annual Cultivate Respect campaign, the Equity Research Calendar 2008-09 will be launched on September 18th, 4pm at Thomson House. This event is being organized by the SEDE office in collaboration with PGSS. This will be an opportunity for Students and Faculty to talk about their research and art work. The event will attempt to bring together students, faculty and other community members to share ideas and form collaborations for future equity research initiatives. Wine and cheese will be served.
