You know you’re not the next contestant on Beauty and the Geek. So why keep letting employers think that way?
If you’ve applied for a job outside academia with a CV instead of a resumé or encountered blank stares while explaining your research in an interview, don’t despair. A career adviser is about to give you an image make-over that may help get you hired.
This year, for the first time, CAPS is organizing Power in Diversity Career Week
filled with events highlighting the value of diversity in the workplace.
Not-to-be-missed highlights include:
Come see Luca breakdance! Born with Arthrogryposis, a physical limitation affecting his bone structure, joint movement and muscle growth in his legs, Luca "Lazylegz" says he uses his crutches just like we use shoes; 'They are an accessory and not a necessity.'
Snacks provided.
Free lunch.
Wine and Cheese.
Registration the following presentations is available through myFuture. Click on the "Workshops/Events" tab and select the "Workshops/Events" tab.
Are you eager to learn and motivated by challenge? Do you have an interest in public policy? If so, consider taking a closer look at Finance Canada. While the Department is best known for its role in preparing the Federal Budget and the Economic and Fiscal Update, it also sets the economic and social policy agenda for the Government of Canada and is involved in all aspects of public policy – including competitiveness, economic and fiscal policy, foreign debt relief, taxes, financial sector regulation, fiscal balance, and many others.
The Department is looking for talented, creative, and motivated individuals who want to play a role in making Canada one of the leaders in the global economy. We provide an environment that offers challenge, responsibility, career advancement, continuous learning, work-life balance, and competitive compensation – in short, an environment where individuals continue to grow and achieve throughout their career.
We are currently recruiting for the Economist and Policy Analyst Stream – open to candidates who will have completed, between September 2007 and December 2009, a master’s degree in the fields of economics, public policy, public administration, international studies, international relations, or finance. Graduates hired under this stream are involved in all aspects of the Department’s work. They conduct policy analysis and forecasts, perform research, and provide recommendations on a wide variety of public policy issues. Working at Finance also provides opportunities to interact with a wide variety of public, not-for-profit and private sector organizations.
The application deadline for the Economist and Policy Analyst Stream is October 5, 2008. On-campus interviews will be conducted between October 20 and October 31, 2008.
The Department of Finance also conducts recruitment under the Doctoral Researcher Stream (applications due November 21, 2008) and Tax Legislation Stream (applications to begin in early 2009).
We invite you to explore our University Recruitment website to learn more about Finance Canada—what we do, what we offer, how our recruitment process works and what some recent graduates who have joined our team have to say about working at Finance.
