This workshop will show you how to market your graduate experience to employers beyond the university and to craft a C.V. that will get their attention. This session emphasizes C.V.'s as an active element of your job search, the importance of targeting, and the effective presentation of transferable skills.

Feel like you know a lot about your research topic and nothing about how to find a job outside academia. In this workshop you will learn an overview of how to conduct an effective job search outside academia.
A highly interactive workshop that covers what to do before, during and after a non-academic interview.
Never schmoozed? An effective job search involves meeting the people you want to work with. This workshop will highlight the unique opportunities and constraints that face graduate students seeking to build relationships in their target professional area.
Wondering what career path is right for you, but don't know what you have to offer? In this highly interactive workshop you will explore your interests, skills, and values. Participants are REQUIRED to bring their CV to this event.
We must ask ourselves certain questions when looking for a professional position after graduate school: What do I want to do? Where do I want to do it? What minimum requirements must be met for me to be happy in a position? Even if we apply for every position advertised, we need to know our own priorities. How we feel about an advertised position will come through in an interview. Unless the position is an "inside job," it is yours to get. Confidence is something that you can learn, and professional confidence is essential, not only to secure a position, but to thrive in a position. Along with being well-prepared, make any interview a positive and professional experience, make each person you meet during the interview (search committee, secretaries, administrators, students) someone with whom you want to continue a professional relationship with---whether or not you get/take the position.
Afraid of making that cold call? You will learn how to effectively prepare your cold call to obtain a successful outcome. Not too much theory, but lots of practice.
Etiquette is about properly handling social and business situations. Develop skills to feel more confident and know what to do.
Every year McGill University participates in the annual celebration of International Education Week (IEW). IEW is scheduled for the third week of November each year to coincide with the timing of international education celebrations to be held in over 85 countries around the globe.
This year, IEW is taking place from Nov. 12th-16th. International Student Services (ISS), along with various departments and student associations at McGill, have lined up several events for this special week, such as the “Where in the World” Photo Competition, Brown Bag Lecture with Prof. Claudia Mitchell, Information Session (internships and studying abroad), International Night Market/International McGill Idol, Free Movie Night and MISN’s International Potluck.
