Workshops for Graduate Students
A highly interactive workshop that covers what to do before, during and after a non-academic interview.
Never schmoozed? An effective job search involves meeting the people you want to work with. This workshop will highlight the unique opportunities and constraints that face graduate students seeking to build relationships in their target professional area.
Wondering what career path is right for you, but don't know what you have to offer? In this highly interactive workshop you will explore your interests, skills, and values. Participants are REQUIRED to bring their CV to this event.
Feel like you know a lot about your research topic and nothing about how to find a job outside academia. In this workshop you will learn an overview of how to conduct an effective job search outside academia.
In this introductory workshop, you will learn about the On-Campus Recruitment process. A wealth of information and resources are available to assist you in succeeding in the various steps involved.
Interested in management consulting? An interactive workshop that walks you through case examples and provides tips on how to survive a case interview.
The goal of the workshop is to gather industry representatives, academic researchers, graduate students and postdoctoral fellows to work on concrete problems proposed by the industry. The workshop is organized by the Centre de recherches mathématiques, along with GERAD, the CIRRELT (Interuniversity Research Center on Enterprise Networks, Logistics and Transportation) and ncm2, and is sponsored by the MITACS network of centres of excellence. The participants will work in teams, and each team will analyse a problem supplied by a company or a public sector institution. The workshop will provide companies and institutions with mathematical tools for solving problems, and will enable academic researchers in applied mathematics to work on real-world problems.

In our fast changing world with its increasingly complex organisations the old adage of “it’s not what you know but who you know” is becoming increasingly relevant. This interactive skills session will cover all aspects of networking which are vital for building client relationships and establishing the broad external business community connections that ease the flow of information and enable modern day working in an International environment.
There is lots of talk these days about diversity and employability. Companies and organizations understand the value of having a diverse workforce. Many Employers have a diversity program whereby they offer equal opportunity to diverse groups, such as, people with disabilities, visible minorities, first nations, and queer people.
Diversity is something that impacts all of us whether we come from a minority group or not. Although diversity is seen as a positive thing for the most part, there are still, barriers, and difficulties that individuals from various groups may be faced with. It is crucial to be informed and understand our rights as well as have access to valuable resources and information.
We at the Career and Placement Service (CAPS) recognize the importance of addressing diversity in all its forms with regard to our student body and in relation to the workforce. As a result of our commitment to this area we have developed a great collection of books, magazines and web links, as well as, appointing a diversity advisor to oversee this portfolio.
The diversity advisor provides individual sessions, workshops on various topics as well as organizes panel discussions and discussion groups. For more information please consult the CAPS website or the Diversity Advisor, Cindy Mancuso.
